It appears you all really enjoyed our first installment of “Why are we still welding” so here is the second installment. The newsletters attached are easy to read and understand. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn a little more on how we can help slash your maintenance costs.
We were on a jobsite at a steel mill last month when the welding newsletter hit your inboxes and one of the replies had us on the floor laughing.
30 years ago Jim Rumford was out driving around with consultant Dan Cole in the Fort Wayne, Indiana neighborhood. There was a new automotive plant being built and Jim says “let’s go sell them $30,000 worth of Belzona”. Dan laughed and in the plant they went. They secured a training class and a $30,000 order of Belzona 1111 (Super Metal).
A few weeks later Jim, Dan Cole and Belzona’s Chief of Engineering, Mike Tedesco went to do the in-plant training program that was sponsored by the State of Indiana in conjunction with General Motors. The plan was to teach this “new” technology to the trades. When they got to the training room it was setup classroom style. The guys came in and were pushing the tables and chairs back against the walls. Jim said “what are you doing?” and the spokesman said “these classes are so boring when we fall asleep we want to make sure we don’t fall on the floor”.
With that, Jim introduced himself, Dan Cole the consultant in the Fort Wayne area and Mike Tedesco from Belzona and said “we are here to introduce the new Belzona technology for application with the trades. The intent of this training program is to show how to use Belzona applications and replace the welding trades.” With that a roar went up in the room “what are you talking about?” and Jim left the room leaving Dan and Mike to fend for themselves. They survived and lived through this ordeal and in all the training classes we put on no one fell asleep.
So we get a response to last months from Dave Daugherty (retired) saying this:
'I had no idea, until now, Jim was a prophet. About 20 years ago, Jim started out a Belzona training class in ft.Wayne for Dan Cole. The entire class was made up of welders at general motors truck plant. He got up to start the class and said "we are here today to show you guys how to get rid of all the welding and replace it with Belzona". And with that he turned and left the room. Get that man a white suit and cape !!!!!!!!! By the grace of god-------Dan lived thru it.'

Please let us know if you’d like to participate in an
in-plant training session to learn this process.
We here at Rumford Industrial Group want to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving.
